General Information:
St. Clare of Assisi Family Choir
Attention St. Clare Parish families, we would like to begin a ministry for the whole family this year at St. Clare. In the past, we have had family choirs serve at our Christmas and Easter Celebrations. These choirs were always such a beautiful representation of the entire family of God serving together. We would like to make this a more regular offering to our church community and give your families a chance to share your time and talents while growing closer to God while developing your singing voices and musicianship skills. We realize that family life is busy, so we will try and make the schedule as easy as possible for your families.
When and Where?
We sing together for one 9:00 am mass each month and for Christmas and / or Easter depending on availability. We have one rehearsal, once a month, from 8:10 -8:50 in the Conference Center on 1st Sundays. Following rehearsal, you can have a quick break and attend 9:00 mass if you are able. Practice recordings will be made available so you and our youngest singers can sing and meditate on God’s word through music at home. This choir will be led by Kelley Van Slooten. Kelley and her husband Ryan are cantors at St. Clare and have been in the adult choir for many years. Kelley has directed children’s choir, adult choirs, family choirs and taught private voice lessons for many years. She especially loves helping all ages of people develop their singing voices to worship the Lord! We hope you will pray about this opportunity to serve the Lord in song! We hope to make it fun and joyful for the whole family and find ways to serve our greater community outside the walls of St. Clare as well!
Who Can Join?
This choir can include our youngest readers (who will be expected to be full, active and conscious participants in the rehearsals and at Mass), elementary aged kids, middle school, high school and all ages of parents and/or grandparents. The songs will be family friendly songs to help everyone grow in their faith. When children and young people see their adult family members serve, our prayer is that they will continue to have the desire to serve and lead their children to do the same. We must lead by example.
Logistics
Adult members will all be required to take Safe Environment training because we will be working with the youth of the parish. It is an online course and is easy to complete quickly.

How to Start?
We will have our first rehearsal Sunday, September 4th at 8:10am in the Conference Center and sing for our first Mass on Sept. 18th. We hope this ministry will bless your family, our Parish and our greater community. We see it as a great opportunity to grow closer as a family of God. We pray you will consider joining us. Remember St. Augustine said " Singing is praying twice" and the bible says "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord all ye lands."
