PLEASE NOTE:We will never solicit money or gift cards for staff or clergy via email or text. Please notify the Parish Office of any suspicious communications.
We will be providing the majority of the costumes (such as tunics and headpieces) for everyone. Most of our tunics and head coverings have been sewn and hand-dyed in-house led by the direction of our head seamstress and parishioner Denise Reichert .
However, participants will have to provide some items, such as shoes. Please note that we do try to be as accurate as we can within reason to help realistically portray the Passion of our Lord. The following are guidelines for participates:
SHOES: Think Jesus Sandals...flat, no heels, comfortable (it’s going to be a long day). For research and purchase options go to Holy Land Market or J-Slips... these brands are also available on amazon.com. No bold or bright colors. Must be browns or neutral.
BELTS: Can be worn by women and men...these are optional. These may be thin or wide leather strips or a scarf or pieces of long fabric. We do have some belts in our costume department.
HAIRSTYLE: Contemporary hairstyles will need to be covered with turban or over scarf, which we will provide. The women will all have braided hairstyles, which we will do in-house on Good Friday.
BEARDS: Boys, please, let your beard grow (if possible)... beards were worn by most Jewish men at that time. They do not have to be long...but facial hair is acceptable and preferred. Keep in mind that having just a mustache or a goatee is not period appropriate. However, if you're a Roman, you must be clean-shaven.
WOMEN: Come with little to no makeup. Foundation, concealer, powder and little mascara is fine.
NO eyeliner
NO false lashes
NO lipstick
NO painted nails! If they are painted, please keep them nude colors
Keep that in mind for toenails (sandals) also
NO visible piercings unless studs or mini hoops in ears
I do ask that participants please strictly adhere to the costume guidelines. Below are two YouTube videos, which offer more specific tips from The Chosen's (which is a very good series about the life and ministry of Jesus) very own costume team:
